If you're considering travelling to Sharm el Sheikh, in Egypt then perhaps this site may be worth a look in. It's been designed as an info sharing exercise and as an excuse to show friends and family having a good time!....so if you've taken the time to log on I hope you find it useful. The 2005 / 2006 underwater video clips have been provided courtesy of Nino Del Duca :sharkman85@hotmail.com and my good friend Hatem Ahmed of Sinai Dive Club who kindly took photos and video clips of family during summer 2006. Purchasing a Fuji F30 digital camera & underwater housing in 2007 has given me the opportunity to create photos & videos of this amazing underwater environment and has given me hours of fun in the process! I've been travelling to the Red Sea resort of Sharm-el-Sheikh since 1997 and during this time have witnessed many changes as the place is rapidly developing. I was attracted initially by the superb diving offered in the pristine, warm, blue waters of the Red Sea but soon realised that there's also plenty more on offer besides snorkelling & diving. Since purchasing an apartment in Sharm in 2003, I've been able to experience a little bit more of the local culture and even taking the time to learn a few Arabic words has helped, particularly in Sharm market and with local taxi drivers. Sharm was first recommended to me by my old diving buddy from Abu Dhabi BSAC Sub Aqua Club, Dave Teasdale. He reckoned Ras Mohammad was one of the best places in the world to dive and he was absolutely right. Sharm is suitable for both novice and experienced divers alike and if you don't want to sign up for a course, then most diving outfits offer "intro dives" which give you the chance to don scuba gear and have a taster session with a qualified instructor. However you don't have to be a diver to experience the underwater world which is literally at your finger tips. Most of the major hotels in Sharm offer access to the Red Sea's fringing reef which can be accessed mainly by using the floating jetties...walk out...take the plunge and you're into a completely new environment! Snorkelling equipment doesn't cost a lot and you can experience the wonders of the coral reef relatively cheaply. One of the great advantages of snorkelling over diving is that you can go at your own speed, taking time to really study the reef fish and build up water confidence. If water sports aren't for you there are plenty of other options too. Most of the hotels run excursions to Cairo, Luxor, Petra and famous sites like St. Katherine's Monastery but you may find them expensive. By shopping around there are deals to be had. I took my mum on a day trip to Cairo in Feb 2005, all for under £100 each which included the Pyramids & Sphinx, the wonderful Cairo Museum, meal by the Nile and return trip by plane from Sharm. It was an amazing day out which my sister Nikki and nephew Matty experienced later that year. We booked this tour through Karnak Tours (next to the Air Egypt office in Old Sharm) and found them to be friendly, reliable and very reasonably priced. Nikki and her husband Gordon also used this tour operator when they travelled to Luxor in the summer of 2005. Sharm appears to be rapidly developing into a popular tourist destination for non divers and the newly developing area around Nabq has attracted a lot of investment in the expanding property market. The breeze along this coastland also ensures Nabq is cooler and fresher which is an advantage during the hot summer months when temperatures can rocket. Since first building this website in 2006 it's regularly updated particularly the photo albums, video links and top tips. Please post a comment in the guest book if you've found it to be useful. Many thanks for logging on and explore the links on the left in addition to the picture links on this page.
